The realistic picture
Lekki was built quickly and without accessibility standards, so pavements are broken or non-existent on most streets, drainage gutters run uncovered along Admiralty Way, and curbs rarely have ramps. Wheelchair users will find independent street movement genuinely difficult, and a private car with a driver becomes essential rather than optional. Expect to plan every outing around venue access rather than spontaneously exploring on foot.
That said, the newer developments do better. Circle Mall, Novare Lekki, Landmark Centre and the major international hotel brands (Radisson Blu, Lagos Marriott in Ikeja, Wyndham) have lifts, ramped entrances and accessible bathrooms. Nike Art Gallery is famously multi-story with no lift. Lekki Conservation Centre's canopy walkway is entirely inaccessible for wheelchair users, though the ground-level boardwalks are manageable.
What to arrange in advance
Book a hotel with a lift and confirm the room has a roll-in shower or grab bars — the Radisson Blu Anchorage on Victoria Island, Eko Hotel and Lagos Continental are the most reliable options. Ask specifically whether the accessible room is on a higher floor (better views, but relies on generator power during outages).
Hire a private driver for the full stay rather than relying on Bolt, since Bolt drivers arrive in whatever car they own and rarely have space for a folded wheelchair plus luggage. Rates are 25,000-40,000 naira per day for 8-10 hours. For medical support, Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island and Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi have the best facilities within reach of Lekki.
