April is transition month. The first two weeks feel like March continuing — hot, humid, cloudy — then somewhere around the 8th to 15th, the first real thunderstorms arrive. These are dramatic: sky goes black in twenty minutes, wind flips outdoor umbrellas, drainage on Lekki-Epe Expressway floods within an hour. The storms usually last 45-90 minutes, then the sun returns. By month's end you can expect two or three rain events a week, mostly late afternoon.
Temperatures ease slightly to 30-33°C but humidity stays punishing. The rain doesn’t cool anything for long. What it does do is knock out power more often — expect NEPA outages of 4-8 hours after any major storm as feeders trip. This makes generator capacity at your hotel genuinely important, not a footnote.
Easter and pricing
Easter weekend, whenever it falls in April, is a mini high season. Ilashe and Tarkwa Bay day trips fill up. La Campagne Tropicana books out. Lakowe Lakes runs family packages. Hotel rates rise 20-30% Thursday through Monday. Elegushi Beach is packed. Outside those four days, April is still cheap: ₦80,000-100,000 for solid Phase 1 rooms, wide availability everywhere.
Schools break for Easter, so family-oriented spots — Lekki Conservation Centre, Hi-Impact Planet, Omu Resort in Ibeju-Lekki — see spikes. If you want quiet, avoid the week around Easter and target the last week of April instead, when locals are back at work and rain patterns are still manageable.
