What August 'little dry' actually means
August delivers a phenomenon locals call the 'August break' — a genuine pause in the rains that lasts two to four weeks. Rainfall drops from July's 250mm to around 90mm, mostly concentrated in the first and last few days. Skies clear, humidity easing to 75%, temperatures settling at 27-30°C. This is objectively the most pleasant weather of the year in Lekki, and most foreign visitors have no idea it exists.
Locals use August for beach weekends, outdoor weddings and Ilashe trips that got cancelled in July. Bar Beach, Elegushi and Landmark all see steady weekday traffic. Lekki Conservation Centre is at its best — greenery is dense, mosquitoes are manageable, and the canopy walkway is stable underfoot. Golf at Lakowe Lakes runs reliably. Photography light is excellent.
Prices and school-holiday overlap
Nigerian schools are on long vacation through most of August, so family-oriented spots stay busy: Omu Resort, Hi-Impact Planet Fun City, La Campagne Tropicana all price up 15-20%. Regular business hotels remain cheap because corporate travel is still slow. Standard rooms in Phase 1 and Ikate run ₦80,000-100,000 — a fair 20% below December but not the rock-bottom of May-June.
Book Ilashe and Tarkwa Bay day trips a week ahead in August because weather-cancelled June-July trips get rebooked here. Restaurant service is normal. This is genuinely the smart contrarian pick: better weather than April, cheaper than December, and locals are relaxed rather than frazzled by traffic. Do not confuse August with September, which flips back to rain.
