Five markets that actually reward a visit, ordered by what you go home with.
One to three
1) Lekki Arts and Crafts Market on Admiralty Way. The tourist market, but the good version — bronze, masks, Ankara, leather, drums. Opening prices are 3-4x the real price; haggle hard and pay in cash. Best on weekdays before 3pm. 2) Ebeano Supermarket at Freedom Way — not a market strictly, but the one-stop for imported goods, fresh produce and wine, and the yardstick for grocery prices in Lekki.
3) Sangotedo Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays for genuine local produce — tomatoes, peppers, yam, palm oil in bulk. This is where domestic staff shop; prices are a third of the supermarkets.
Four and five
4) The Palms Mall market floor at Osapa London for a modern indoor shopping experience — Shoprite, Filmhouse cinema, food court. Not a traditional market but where most locals actually go. 5) Epe Fish Market on Monday mornings. A day trip rather than a Lekki market strictly, but the freshest fish in Lagos state and worth the drive. Go by 7am or the good catch is gone.
I have left off the roadside food markets in Ajah and Ikota because they are not really visitor-friendly — no English signage, aggressive parking, and the produce is identical to Sangotedo which is easier.
