NokByAlara on VI is the local favourite for Pan-African fine dining — $60 for a tasting menu with wine pairing, book two weeks ahead. Yellow Chilli on Adeola Odeku for elevated Nigerian classics at $35 a head; the goat pepper soup is unmissable. Terra Kulture's restaurant does Nigerian regional cooking with an art gallery attached — $25 to $30 a head and worth the crossing to VI.

Street food you shouldn’t skip
Suya (spiced grilled beef) at Glover Court in Ikoyi, $4 for a generous pack. Boli (grilled plantain with peanut sauce), $2 from any evening cart. Puff-puff and akara for breakfast from roadside vendors, $1. Eat where locals queue and skip anywhere with English-only menus and no lunch crowd.
