Why go
Badagry was one of West Africa's largest slave-trading ports from the 16th to 19th centuries, and the sites are still there — the Point of No Return, the Mobee Family Slave Relic Museum, and the First Storey Building in Nigeria (built 1845, still standing). Entry to each site is $2 to $5. Local guides at the museum charge $10 to $15 and are essential; the artefacts don’t explain themselves. It's a heavy day, but the most memorable one many travellers have in Lagos.
The logistics
Hire a driver for the day at $60 to $80 — Uber will not want to make this run. Leave Lekki at 6am to beat Third Mainland Bridge, which adds 90 minutes if you don’t. Drive time from Lekki 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way. Pack lunch or eat at the Whispering Palms Resort for $15. The last boat to Point of No Return leaves around 4pm; be there by 2pm. Return through Apapa in the evening is grim — expect 4 hours.

Yes with a hired driver. Alone by public transport is not recommended.
