It's tight in Lagos but doable — here's the math for a solo traveller staying 5 nights in Lekki without eating instant noodles.
Where the $50 goes
Bed: $22 to $28 in a clean guesthouse or budget hotel around Sabo or Ikate — expect a fan or intermittent AC, en-suite, decent lock. Food: $12 for the day if you eat one hot meal at a bukka (rice and stew for $3) and street food (suya $2, boli and groundnut $1.50) for the rest. Transport: $6 in shared danfos and one Uber. Water and phone data: $3. That's $46 before any drinks.
The rules
Eat where the office workers queue at lunch — Iya Basira's stew joints in Ikate feed you for $3.50 with meat. Take danfos on the expressway (fixed $0.50 fare within Lekki), not Ubers except after dark. Elegushi Beach entry is $8 and worth it once. Skip anywhere with a bouncer. Water: buy the 75cl bottles in packs from Ebeano for $0.40 each, not from convenience stands at $1.
What you’ll miss
You won’t be at Quilox or Landmark's Shiro. You won’t be doing sunset cocktails at Radisson Blu. You will see the actual Lagos — food-cart culture, street music, church-service overflow — which is what most $200-a-day travellers never touch.
