The heat is real
March is when Lekki cooks. The harmattan is gone, the rains haven’t started, and the Atlantic humidity climbs relentlessly. Daytime highs of 33-35°C feel like 40°C once you factor humidity. Nights don’t cool below 26°C. Walking anywhere between 11am and 4pm is punishment. This is the month where a hotel pool stops being decoration and starts being infrastructure — filter your search accordingly.
Air conditioning quality suddenly matters. Older Phase 1 apartments with single split units struggle to cool bedrooms below 25°C. Newer builds in Ikate and Chevron with central AC or dual units are worth the extra ₦20,000 a night. Ask specifically whether the AC works during NEPA outages, because generator-only AC often cycles off overnight to save diesel.
Prices and what to do
March is low season pricing across the board. Standard rooms in Phase 1 run ₦75,000-95,000; serviced apartments in Ikate ₦110,000-140,000. Restaurants have full availability, beach clubs feel spacious, and traffic is manageable outside rush hour. The trade-off is that outdoor plans get miserable. Lekki Conservation Centre is bearable only before 10am. Nike Art Gallery, air-conditioned, becomes a genuine refuge.
Evening life is unaffected — everyone comes out after 7pm. Rooftop bars on Victoria Island, night markets around Admiralty, and beach clubs with proper shade like Landmark all work well. Plan indoor or waterside activities by day, outdoor by night. Book a hotel with a real pool, not a decorative plunge.
