September and October in Lekki: The Second Rain Peak
Second rainy period downpour over Lekki Phase 1 in September
The 'small rains' return for six weeks with monthly totals around 180-220mm, and rates stay 20-25% below December.
The second wet phase
After August's break, the rain returns. September and October make up the shorter, second rainy period. Storms are less brutal than June-July but more frequent than August — expect rain on roughly half the days, usually as intense one-hour bursts rather than long soaks. Total rainfall averages 200mm in September and 150mm in October. Temperatures sit at 27-30°C with high humidity. Sunsets get spectacular as clouds break up.
Flooding is less severe than June-July because ground drainage has been working all season. Lekki-Epe Expressway remains functional. Day trips to Epe or Ibeju-Lekki are viable with a morning start. Beach conditions vary — surf gets rougher through October as the Atlantic swell builds. Ilashe boat cancellations rise again by mid-October.
Value window before the December spike
Pricing stays in the shoulder-season range. Phase 1 rooms sit at ₦80,000-100,000, Ikate serviced apartments at ₦110,000-140,000. Restaurants are fully open and rarely require booking. Nike Art Gallery, Lekki Conservation Centre and Omu Resort all run normal hours. This is the last cheap window before Detty December pushes rates 60-100% higher in the second half of November.
October has one useful specific: Nigerian Independence Day on October 1st creates a long weekend with some domestic tourism, especially at Lakowe Lakes and La Campagne Tropicana. Rates bump 15% around that. Otherwise, September-October is quiet, functional, moderately damp and honestly good value. Bring rain gear but expect plenty of sun between storms.
Before you book
What people ask before booking Ikate.
Early October yes, late October the surf gets stronger and swimming becomes less safe on open beaches. Enclosed spots like La Campagne stay usable.
The bump starts around November 20th and peaks December 22nd through January 2nd. Rates can triple over that window at premium properties.
