The financial-district-turned-nightlife-hub across the bridge from Lekki, and why you should give it at least 2 nights.

The lay of the land

Victoria Island (VI) sits between Ikoyi and the Atlantic, connected to Lekki by the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and to the mainland by Third Mainland. It's the highest concentration of embassies, five-star hotels and beach clubs in Lagos. Central Business District covers the banks; Oniru Estate covers the beach scene; Akin Adesola and Adetokunbo Ademola between them hold most of the restaurants and clubs. Traffic is punishing on weekday mornings.

What to book

Eko Hotel & Suites is the classic at $220 a night, with lagoon-side pools and every taxi driver in Lagos knowing where it is. Radisson Blu Anchorage on Ozumba Mbadiwe does the best pool for $260. For under $180, Southern Sun Ikoyi (technically Ikoyi) and Lagos Continental deliver. The Wheatbaker in Ikoyi is the local favourite for design and food at $280.

Nightlife you came for

Landmark Beach and Village is the daytime beach-club scene — Shiro, Craft Gourmet, Hard Rock Cafe. After dark, Quilox on Ozumba Mbadiwe and Vellvett in Oniru run until 4am on Friday and Saturday. Cover charges $20 to $40. Beach bars at Elegushi are the more affordable option — $8 entry, live music most nights.

Before you book

What people ask before booking Victoria Island.

Do I need to move between VI and Lekki?

If you have five nights, split them 2 in Lekki, 3 in VI. Cheaper cabs after and better base for going out.

Is VI walkable?

In sections yes — the Landmark strip and Adetokunbo Ademola. Elsewhere the pavements disappear.
