Ikeja wins on airport proximity and price (₦40,000-180,000) but loses on beaches and Lekki traffic (2-3 hours each way).

Ikeja's case

Ikeja is on the mainland, roughly 25 kilometres from Lekki, and it holds Murtala Muhammed International Airport. That single fact drives most of its hotel bookings — airport transit stays, one-night arrivals, early-flight departures. Ikeja GRA (Government Reserved Area) is the quieter, leafier half; Allen Avenue and Opebi are the busier commercial-and-nightlife half.

It suits airport connections, mainland business meetings, and travellers with events at Ikeja City Mall or the Sheraton. It does not suit anyone whose plan is Lekki beaches, restaurants or nightlife — the commute is 90-180 minutes each way in traffic, and Third Mainland Bridge closures wreck timings.

Prices and the Lekki commute

Budget hotels in Ikeja run ₦25,000-50,000, mid-range ₦60,000-110,000, and the Sheraton / Radisson-tier options hit ₦150,000-280,000. Broadly 30-40% cheaper than equivalent quality in Lekki Phase 1 or VI.

The commute is the killer. Ikeja to Lekki Phase 1 in Monday rush hour is 2.5-3 hours. Weekend afternoons are 90 minutes. Late-night Ubers can do it in 45 minutes but you’re doing it every day. For a Lekki-focused trip, sleep in Lekki; use Ikeja only for airport-day stays.

Before you book

What people ask before booking Lekki Phase 1.

How far is Ikeja from the airport?

Domestic terminal is 5-15 minutes from most Ikeja GRA hotels; international is 15-25 minutes.

Should I stay in Ikeja to save money on a Lekki trip?

No. What you save on the room you lose in Bolt fares and hours in traffic.
