3-star hotels in Ibadan

Ibadan spreads across rolling hills, its red-roofed buildings and large markets giving it a look and pace of its own. Visitors come for the historic Old Residency, the University of Ibadan, Nigeria's first university, Bodija Market and the calmer Agodi Gardens, and the city's festivals, art and cuisine carry its Yoruba heritage. It works for business and leisure alike, and the hotels on this list sit around the middle of that mix.

The addresses place these hotels in the centre and its outskirts: Bodija, Jericho and Ring Road for the closest options, with others off MKO Abiola Way, Akinyemi Way, Ikolaba Estate Road and the Ife and New Ife roads further out. That spread suits couples and business travellers who want to be near the commercial districts, families who need pools and family rooms, and short-break visitors who would rather stay close to the centre.

Getting there and around

Ibadan is reached by road from major cities such as Lagos, about 130 kilometres away, and Abuja; the drive from Lagos takes around two hours via the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Ibadan Airport handles domestic flights. Once in the city, most movement is by taxi, minibus (danfo) or ride-hailing services, and traffic can be heavy at peak hours, so allow extra time. Several hotels on this shortlist add their own shuttle service, including World Lilies Hotel & Events Place Ibadan, The Citron Hotels, De Signature Tower Hotels & Suites and The Jagz Ibadan.

When to go

The dry season, from November to March, is generally considered the best time to visit Ibadan, with cooler, less humid weather. The rainy season runs from April to October and brings frequent showers along with lush greenery. Major festivals such as the Ibadan Cultural Festival often fall in the dry season, giving visitors a chance to experience local traditions. If you plan around the drier months you get easier days for the markets, gardens and historic sites.
