Where to stay

Best time to visit Lekki, month by month

November to February is the dry season and the peak: harmattan haze in December and January, average highs around 32°C, and hotel rates in Phase 1 climbing 20-40% around Detty December, the Lagos festival run that pulls in diaspora crowds for Afro Nation, Flytime Fest and countless beach parties at Landmark and Elegushi. Book Phase 1 and Oniru rooms by early October or you will pay walk-in rates. March and April are hot and humid, with the first rains arriving late April; prices dip about 15% from the December peak.

May through mid-July is the main rainy season — expect flooding on Admiralty Way, Freedom Way and the Lekki-Epe Expressway after heavy downpours, and factor an extra 30-60 minutes into any trip. This is the cheapest window, with mid-range hotels in Ikate and Agungi often at 25-35% off peak. August brings the short dry spell locals call the August break, September and October are wet again but manageable, and rates start climbing from mid-November as Christmas returnee bookings lock in.

Getting around Lekki: car, bus, and the expressway reality

A car — your own driver, a hired one, or Uber/Bolt/inDrive — is genuinely necessary in Lekki. There is no rail on the peninsula; the Blue Line ends at Marina and the Red Line runs Agbado to Oyingbo, so neither helps you east of Ikoyi. BRT buses run the Lekki-Epe Expressway from CMS through Ajah to Abraham Adesanya, useful if you are patient and travelling light, but they do not enter estates like Chevron, Agungi or Nicon Town.

Distances look short and drive long. Phase 1 to Ajah is about 18 km but 40-90 minutes depending on the Lekki toll gate and school-run traffic. VI to Chevron is 12 km, typically 30-50 minutes. Ibeju-Lekki and Eleko are 45-70 km from Phase 1 and easily two hours each way. Danfo minibuses and okadas exist but okadas are banned on the expressway and most of Lekki, so do not plan around them. Budget ₦8,000-₦15,000 a day for Bolt if you are hopping between two or three areas.

How many nights in Lekki and a sensible first-timer plan

Four to five nights is the right length for a first visit. Any less and the traffic eats your itinerary; any more and you will want to add Epe, Badagry or a domestic flight to Calabar or Abuja. Base yourself in Lekki Phase 1 or Oniru for the whole stay rather than moving — changing hotels mid-trip in Lagos costs you half a day each time.

A workable shape: day one, Lekki Conservation Centre canopy walk and dinner on Admiralty Way; day two, Nike Art Gallery in Ikate and Landmark Beach in Oniru; day three, a full day at Ilashe or La Campagne Tropicana beach in Ibeju-Lekki; day four, Lekki Arts and Crafts Market, Terra Kulture on VI and Freedom Park on Lagos Island; day five, brunch in Ikoyi and departure. Add a sixth night if you want Lakowe Lakes golf or a slow day at Eleko Beach.

How many stars is The Federal Palace Hotel & Casino?
The Federal Palace Hotel & Casino is a 5-star hotel in Lekki.
Is The Federal Palace Hotel & Casino a good hotel?
Guests rate it 4.4 across 7277 reviews. It's a luxury choice for Lekki.
Is Lekki better for families or couples?
Both work, but the choice of area differs. Families do well in serviced apartments in Lekki Phase 1, Chevron or Osapa London where you get a kitchen, a pool and quiet estate streets, plus easy runs to Hard Rock Cafe and Lekki Conservation Centre’s canopy walk. Couples tend to prefer Oniru or a beach resort in Ibeju-Lekki or Lakowe for the weekend, with dinners on Admiralty Way. Ajah and Sangotedo are cheaper but the expressway commute makes them a poor family base.
What should I book in advance in Lekki?
Book any December stay by early October, especially anything in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru or Victoria Island. Detty December — the diaspora-driven festival run around Afro Nation, Flytime Fest and Lagos beach parties — clears out inventory and pushes rates 20-40% above normal. Also book Ilashe beach houses and La Campagne Tropicana rooms weeks ahead for any weekend between November and February. Weekday stays outside December can be booked a day or two out with no penalty.
What’s a typical nightly rate in Lekki?
A typical mid-range room in Lekki Phase 1, Ikate or Chevron costs ₦100,000-₦160,000 a night in 2024, including breakfast and generator backup. Budget guesthouses in Agungi, Ikota or Ajah start around ₦35,000. Branded upscale hotels near the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge run ₦250,000-₦450,000. Between 20 December and 3 January, add 30-60% to all of the above.
Is Lekki walkable?
No. Lekki is built for cars, with limited pavements, wide roads like the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and long distances between points of interest — Phase 1 to Chevron is 8 km, Chevron to Ajah another 6 km. Inside a single estate like Lekki Phase 1 or Nicon Town you can walk short stretches to a restaurant or shop, but crossing the expressway on foot is unsafe and largely undone. Plan every trip on Bolt or Uber.
Is it worth staying in Ibeju-Lekki instead of Lekki proper?
Only if the beach is your main reason for visiting. Ibeju-Lekki — covering Eleko, Lakowe and the stretch out toward the Dangote Refinery and the new Lekki Deep Sea Port — has the best beach resorts, including La Campagne Tropicana and Lakowe Lakes, but it is 45-70 km from Victoria Island and easily two hours in traffic. For a two-night beach break it is excellent; as a base for exploring Lekki, Ikoyi and VI it is a mistake. Many visitors split the trip: three nights in Phase 1, two nights in Ibeju-Lekki.
