Chevron

Named for the oil company HQ; expat-heavy, decent restaurants, and the launchpad for LCC and points east.

Chevron takes its name from the Chevron/Texaco compound at the roundabout and has evolved into a semi-corporate residential zone with real estate priced for expat expense accounts. The upside: the restaurants and grocery stores work — Ebeano supermarket for imports, Cafe Neo for coffee, a stretch of restaurants along Chevron Drive doing Lebanese, Indian, and Thai to actual standard. The downside: it's not a nightlife area, and the walkable options end at 9pm.

Come here if you want a comfortable, functional base with reliable power, decent food, and an easy Bolt to LCC or to Phase 1 for a bigger night out. It suits business travellers, families, and anyone doing a work-heavy trip. Skip it if beach clubs and rooftop bars are the point — you’ll be Bolt-ing 20 minutes each way constantly. Also, the traffic from the Chevron roundabout east on Friday evenings is the worst on the Peninsula.

At 9pm the Chevron Drive strip is quiet rather than dead — restaurant windows lit, a handful of security men on stools outside the gated estates, the odd generator humming behind a wall where the grid has dropped. It reads as a residential compound that happens to have decent food, not a destination in itself. Nobody is out looking for a bar; the crowd on the street is mostly staff heading home and diners waiting on a Bolt. That's the honest version of the area's evenings.

The estates themselves — Northern Foreshore, Chevy View, Cooperative Villas — are the actual draw for anyone staying more than a few nights: serviced apartments with generators that kick in within seconds, estate security, and a walk to the supermarket. Short-stay visitors who just want a bed near LCC are better off at the roundabout hotels, which are noisier but ten minutes off the plane's Bolt. Either way, budget an evening Bolt if you want anything beyond the strip's three or four restaurants.

Where to stay in Chevron

The gated estates off Chevron Drive — Northern Foreshore, Chevy View, Cooperative Villas — have the best serviced apartments in the $90-180 range, higher in December and around Christmas week when corporate short-lets spike. On the Expressway itself, hotels around the roundabout run $70-140 and are convenient but noisy, especially with generator hum after dark when Ikeja grid supply drops. For quiet plus walkable, aim for anything on Chevron Alternative Route or Kunsela — small residential streets with a couple of guesthouses under $100, usually with better rates outside the December peak. Avoid the strip hotels on the eastbound Expressway shoulder past the roundabout; that's a pure diesel-and-generator experience with road noise all night. Book Northern Foreshore or an Alternative Route guesthouse if quiet matters more than proximity to the roundabout.
