Golf, lakeside villas, and a genuine escape from the Lagos noise — 45 minutes east of Phase 1.

Lakowe is a residential-and-golf zone south of the Expressway near Awoyaya, built around the Lakowe Lakes Golf & Country Club. The club has an 18-hole course, a hotel, and a stretch of villa developments around artificial lakes. It's the only genuinely resort-style environment on this stretch of the Peninsula: quiet, green, low-density, and priced accordingly. Day passes for non-members are $50-80 for golf, $20-30 for pool and grounds access.

It's a specific traveller who stays here — golf holidays, quiet corporate off-sites, families wanting a lake-and-pool base without the beach-club chaos. It's not for anyone chasing the Lagos-energy side of this site; you're a full 45-60 minutes from the nearest rooftop bar. Come here for two nights of quiet, then head back to Phase 1 or Ikoyi for the city part of your trip. The golf club hotel is the reliable option; villa rentals vary wildly.

By 9pm the estate is close to silent — a few security lights along the internal roads, the odd generator hum from a villa hosting a birthday party, frogs from the lake edges louder than any traffic. There's no strip to walk to; dinner happens at the club restaurant or in whichever villa you've rented. Lakowe Road itself, the turn-off from the Lekki-Epe Expressway, is unlit and pot-holed for the first kilometre before the estate gates and guardhouse take over. Bring your own supplies for a proper evening in — nothing delivers out here after dark.

Compare this to Awoyaya ten minutes back toward Lagos, which has the supermarkets and fuel stations Lakowe lacks, or Ibeju-Lekki further east, which is mostly construction sites and speculative land plots rather than anywhere to actually stay. Lakowe wins on finish and quiet; it loses badly on convenience. If your trip is built around nightlife, live music, or spontaneous restaurant-hopping, book Phase 1 or Ikoyi instead and treat Lakowe as, at most, a two-night detour for golf and a still lake to look at over breakfast.

Where to stay in Lakowe

The Lakowe Lakes hotel itself runs $150-280 and includes golf access. Villa rentals inside Lakowe Lakes Estate run $200-450 a night for 3-4 bedrooms and are good value for groups. Boutique guesthouses just outside the estate along Lakowe Road run $80-140. Confirm generator hours and lake-view versus street-view rooms; not all 'lakeside' listings actually face water. Book direct through the club for tee times paired with rooms. High season (November-March) pushes these rates 15-20% higher; low season (April-September rains) is when the club hotel can dip toward $150 a night. Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, on the Awoyaya side of the estate, is the steadiest outside-the-gate fallback if the club is full. Book the club hotel directly for a first visit — it pairs tee times with rooms and answers its phone, which not every villa listing manager does.
